    Question Fire-belly toad w/ Fire-belly newt?

Hey guys! I have heard that it can be bad to keep FBT and FBN in the same tank. I have a friend who kept them together many years and they all did fine, except when he tried to add new ones into the colony. He said that for some reason the new ones would end up...well, but that the old ones from the original colony never hurt each other.

What are is your suggestions, comment, or information on that?

Fire Belly Toads are toxic, do not keep them with any other animal.

    They are from southeast Asia.

Fire Belly Newts are from China, at least the ones in most pet stores.

Fire Belly Newts produce some potent skin toxins and have fairly prominent parotid (poison) glands on the sides of their head.

Although they might share the same water sources in the wild, they would not be accustomed to sharing the same small pool day after day and the toxins will build up and stress, hurt, even kill either species, especially if the water isn't changed a few times a week. Especially the newts and their eyes since they spend most of the time under water and feeding in the water, they would be ingesting all that fire belly toxins day after day in food, as well through their skin. You won't know until it's to late and it's sometimes very hard to tell if something is wrong.

Your friend is probally causing both the newts and toads stress and pain without even knowing it.

Never house them together or with other animals.

Wait, are you talking about FBN or FBT? I have heard that FBT need to live in groups. I don't know much about FBN, though. I guess that is what you are talking about?

By together, I think he means toads with newts. I think FBTs are a lot more fun in a group.

Biggest problem I found is that newts appear intimidated by the toads speed and roughness, newts are slow and gentle, totally opposite, toads often take food out of their mouths..
