I have 5 captive bred Whites (Litoria caerulea), and was thinking of releasing 2 of them, generally because I can’t keep up with the demands they need along with full time uni and work. I also have pretty limited space, and when these guys start reaching full size, I will need to expand my operations, which isn’t going to be easy.
Anyway, they are around 2 months old, and were found as tadpoles inside a pot in my garden. They are healthy, well fed and extremely active.
Would these little guys stand a chance in the wild if I were to let them go? Is it a bad idea?
I wish u could sent them to me. . . . . But I'm pretty sure instinct will take over, they're hard wired for finding food and knowing danger. Unlike mamals that have to be taught to hunt and how to find shelter. I think if u just put them in your yard, they'd stick around long enough for u to know they're ok. I'd say release the bigger ones, less chance of being eaten by mom. Maybe get a couple solar lights to attract bugs at night for them. Or stick them by a shudder and leave a light on for them.
Don't release them, not with out a health certificate from a vet. Also it may be illegal to release them.
That's so sad Greg I'm sorry to hear that you can't keep up with your little guys...D: But I wouldn't release them for fear that you would just be sending them to their deaths. D:
You can post a sell thread and see if anyone in your area is interested in buying them though, if you really can't take care of them. D: Poor little things.
