Default Gray Tree Frog Hand Feeding Problems

Hey everyone. This is my first post on this forum. I need advice. I have a gray tree frog. Have had since May of 2010. When i first got him he was active and chased food alot. Well i started hand feeding him and now it seems hes not interested in eating unless i hand feed him. He never moves around any more. He just sits high. never comes down. Hes active enough i guess at night but even then not very much. Will he ever chase food again? I feed him one large cricket a day. (gut loaded). Why is he so inactive? doesnt even use hides anymore. just sits in the same spot every day. Doesnt soak as often either. I believe he hibernated slightly this winter cuz he stopped eating for about 4 months. but hes eating good now he just wont chase it himself. Am i doomed to a life of daily hand feedings? Thankx alot guys for any advice..

Nobody? Does anyone know of a more active frog forum? Im not really aware of too many. I visit a different forum for every one of my pets but the frog forums seem to lack members. Im hoping someone can either help me out with my post or a reccomendation on a more active forum. Thanks alot guys.

Welcome to the forum. Frogs can be inactive for many reasons. Why don't you post a picture of your tank setup and also what the temps and humidity are. Hand feeding is not really the best way to feed a tree frog. Let them do their own hunting ...besides its more fun to watch. If your frog is hunkering down that is usually a sign that the environmental conditions are just not right for him.

My frogs get board of hand feeding and itch for the chase. But it is winter, they slow down quite a bit and the fatter they are the less active also. I say starve Em for a few days and he'll eat anything that moves. I keep hand feeding for treats and dead foods, I love to see them begging!!

Hey thanks alot guys for the replies. Im super relieved to hear hes not really dependent on me for feeding. As far as posting pix right now im using my phone for my posts and camera is almost useless lol. I built a custom glass tank myself measuring two feet wide two feet deep and four feet high. I have live plants. running filtered water. of course branches going all the way up. a total of about 4 hides. I incorporated 4 different mosses to blanket the random platform areas. I have a thermostat on a really nice three stage bulb for lighting and heating. I keep the enclosure at room temperature day and night. and humidity at 60-70.

Will post pix when near a PC.
    Thanks again.
