Talking Getting a Pacman frog (between tomorrow and summer)

    Hey guys! Its me, MeTree!

You guys really helped me alot on my looking into pacman frogs thread, but now I have purchased almost everything I need (excluding the tank, crickets, and pacman frog), so this is more like a comitment now.

I have ordered substrate (eco-earth coco-fiber stuff), calcium w/ D3, water dish, water conditioner, terrarium log, humidity gauge, 2 thermometers, and a screen for under $52 including tax and shipping.

My LFS says that they will be getting pacmans this summer (I guess when the tadpoles turn to frogs and the breeders charge less?). Anyway, I don't know exactly what that means, but...

I guess I will moisten the substrate with the mister. Should I spray the frog also? I guess I still have afew questions. I will update as soon as I find out when the green pacmans will be at my LFS.

Thanks for all your help, Frog Forum Community!

I wouldn't single out the frog for spraying - you should be spraying the substrate. I commend you for doing your preparations so early on.

Thanks for the replies! Are you saying I should spray the frog and the substrate, or don't spray the frog? Sorry, I am not very good with wording.

Being prepared is something I learned the hard way when it came to fish, but I have gotten all that straightened out awhile back. I didn't lose any fish, but it was a close call. That was summer of last year, though.

    Can't be over-prepared!

    Default It came!!!

    Hey guys!

The supplies I ordered from Petco last week came! I will get some pics up to show you what I got. Paid $50 and that includes the shipping (which was free when my order went over $40) and tax!

    Here are some pics of the merchendise;

How is that for $50? Is this all I am going to need other than the pacman and tank? I will try to get a fake plant next time I go to Petsmart.

Thanks for all the help! I couldn't have made it this far without the help of the forum.

    MeTree,

    Comments anyone?

Petco sent me double of one item (the PETCO heat resistant screen top). I ask them what to do and they sent a pick-up truck that picked up the item. Oh well lol.

You might wanna think about a vitamin/mineral powder to mix with the calcium powder. I use it, makes me feel a bit better about the nutritional value of the food I feed my frogs

I mist my tank about twice a day to keep the humidity around 80%, and the way i look at it if the frog is used to a tropical forest style enviroment i dont see any harm in misting the frog as well(im no expert though lol) but dont like douse him in water but if your misting the tank and you get a little on him im sure he'll be fine and hats off to the great preperation, im thinking about getting some coco fiber myself because someone told me the frog moss i have for mine can cause impaction or something like that if the frog eats it

Wow! I went to my LFS to see when the frog might be coming (well, and also to get 2 more lemon tetra, a bronze corydoras, and a trapdoor snail). The manager said earlier (about the time I started this thread) that they would probably be available some time next summer. I was expected mid April at the earliest.

When I was at the LFS I ask about it. She said that she had tried to order me the pacman for the last 2 weeks, but they hadn't had green!

She said that they might have them in stock this week. THIS WEEK! Wow! I ask about the price it would cost and she said probably $32-$34. That is a relief. Yes, I realize it may be abit more expensive than, say, Petsmart, but this is my LFS and I don't mind paying a little bit more. I was actually glad that it was under $40.

Anyway, I still need a tank. I may just use a plastic box for the first few weeks. No problem with that, is there? I may just use paper towels instead of eco-earth for substrate if the pacman is quarter size or smaller.

    I can't wait! I hope I have everything!

I will definately keep you all posted!!

I dont really see an issue with paper towels as a temporary thing, and if you make sure your hear source doesnt melt the plastic or anything i don't see how it can be an immediate issue

Glad to see someone doing some research before they commit to taking care of a pet, any kind of animal if that...

Sounds great! I'll have something ready for the little guy, even if we got the call now.
