Thanks! Friends see pics of the versicolor and like it even if they don't like spiders. The vagans kicks hairs pretty easily but seems to be less skittish as of late.

Wow John! They are very beautiful! I love the B. Vagans.

I am fascinated by them, but at the same time scared to death of them!
I would want to touch them sooo bad, but then I'd be afraid my natural reaction would be to scream and fling them across the room if they crawled on me!

I will have to work on suppressing that.....

Get the nerve to get just one, and its all over....trust me. I suppose you don't ever "need" to actually come in physical contact with them, but if one bolted onto your hand it would probably be nice to not panic. To be honest I am more afraid of their urticating hairs than an actual bite. The B. vagans is somewhat underated. They're readily available and inexpensive. The one in the pics has about a 3" legspan and I picked it up for $15, and honestly it is the biggest character in our collection so far. If you read up on them, it seems that others agree that they are "wierdos". Over on arachnoboards someone even posted that theirs stood its bottle cap "water dish" on its end. They knocked it down and if my memory is correct the spider stood it right back up again! Ours seems to walk from one end of its enclosure over to my girlfriend if she taps on the glass.

Ok, I'm done with my over enthusiastic post. Lol.

    LOL No, that's great John!

I have actually been thinking about getting one for months now, ever since Jo-Anna got hers. I just need to read up on them more. I like the A. versicolor as well. Very beautiful!

Maybe I should practice touching, and maybe holding one at a petstore, and see how I react. I just hope I don't accidently kill it! Then I bought it! I would hate to fling the poor little spider across the store.

    We will see.....

Funny you mention a versi, that is the only one that has darted up my arm when I opened its container...and that's exactly why I said it would be good to know how to handle one if needed lol. Its a nice lil guy, but very quick. I actually just did an enclosure for our a.avic with a false bottom and a plant. Avics like humidity and as far as I know are the closest to being kept in "froglike" conditions I suppose.

Michael thank you for getting me started on this. The slings we received from you have molted once and are doing great. We can't thank you enough. The regalis made my heart stop, but that's alright! I had sent you an email to see how you were doing and I am assuming very busy. I hope all is well.

Very nice pics!! I recently tripled my T collection and have 1 A. avicularia (F), 1 A. metallica (MM) and 2 G. roseas (F and MM). Amazing animals and I can't wait to expand my collection if I can find some of the species I am interested in at decent prices. Where I am, it's turning out to be as difficult to get T's as it was to get frogs and toads. Grrr.....

Lesley, I would highly recommend either one of my species as a first T, but if you really want to handle one, I would suggest the Chilean rose...much less skittish and likely to either run or jump at you. Hope you give it a try-you will never look back!!

Our rosie is calm, however the pink zebra beauty adult female I "stole" for $25 at a lps is a little bit defensive. I've learned its all a case by case basis, people have obts that are lambs supposedly.
