I brought home some new FBT on Saturday. They seem to be doing good, they hide a lot and like to just hang out in the water. I put in some crickets for them and they haven't eaten at all. I did see 1 eat on Saturday at the store but other than that they haven't eaten here yet. I'm guessing they're just adjusting and I know they only need to eat every other day (right?) so I'm hoping they'll eat today. How long can they, will they, or should they go without eating?
It could take a few days before they eat, Julie. Don't worry. It took mine at least a week. It's always nerve racking, but frogs take a few days before adjusting. Actually, my american green treefrog took just a bit over two weeks before eating her first cricket. Talk about stress.
Thanks Eric! It is nerve racking when they don't eat. My daughter and I just fed our little girl "chorus frog"...now that I know what she is
and she gobbled them up. I love watching them hunt and feed...so much fun!
I'm hoping that I have a male or 2 in there so I can hear them sing...love hearing that![]()
The first few days of not eating are the worst. I have been there and it makes you totally paranoid.
My new frogs weren't eating any crickets so I gave them mealworms since I know that's what they were feeding them before.
I've actually heard that mealworms can burrow through their stomachs if you don't remove the mandibles. Does anyway actually know if this is true?
Search the forum. this topic came up before. If memory serves mealies aren't a big concern super worms though there is some.
