What filter do you have? Can it be submersed completely? I had mine letting the water fall on the driftwood, and just ended up submersing it completely. It had a dramatic impact on the noise level.

So you could always purchase such a filter. If not, instead of rock, you can buy a piece of driftwood and put it very close to the exit part of the filter, or add one of your aquatic plant close to it too. The water running on leaves is actually quite soothing. Now if the pressure is too strong, more rocks, a piece of wood, submerse your filter, or purchase a submersible filter (the Fluval 1 Plus is really affordable).
