Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I'm a huge frog lover...I have a bit of an addiction to them I'd say...so much so that I had 1 tattooed on my foot. I'm planning on buying some Fire belly toads this weekend and set up a tank (20 gallon) for them. It is basically half land (rock) and half water with real plants. I have a filter on the left side that makes a bit of a waterfall in the rocks. Because I'm new to housing these frogs, i just wanted some input and opinions on my tank set up to make sure it will be good for them. Thanks in advance

Actually that looks pretty perfect. Props to you.
Hi, and welcome to the forum! I have a pair of fire-bellied toads in a setup that looks like yours. It's mostly 2/3 water, 1/3 land, and I have about 4 inches of water. My FTB are very happy in it. I have added aquatic plants which they love to hang on.
One thing that I might suggest is to get a filter, nothing fancy. Something like the Fluval U1, just to take care of your water. Also, FBT have a toxin that can be damaging, if not deadly, to them if the water is not changed frequently. The way I do it is I change about 1/4 of the water each week and replace it with dechlorinated water. I also use a moss ball and with the aquatic plants, it's a small paradise for them.
I'm sure they will be happy.
I do actually have a filter in there. It's a fluval 2. It's on the left back side of the tank under the rocksI'm glad I built it right. I did a lot of research and looking at other tanks that other people did before building mine. I'm going to pick up a couple more aquatic plants when I get the fire bellies. The tank is 20 gallons so how many do you think I can house in there? I was thinking maybe 3? Also, i was possibly thinking of buying a few guppies to put in the water part as it's deep enough that they would be ok in there and if the frogs feed on them, I'm ok with that.
According to http://www.frogforum.net/toad-care-a...relatives.html, a 40 liters (10 gallons), could easily accommodate 5-6 FBT...!!
As for fish, I inquired about them a month ago, for my enclosure. One of the concerns was that they could get eaten by the FTB. As for guppies, I'm not sure (because of the toxins). These are the species that I was suggested:
1. Cherry Barbs (by Rocko actually on this thread);
2. White cloud mountain minnows;
Eric
I suggest dwarf aquatic plants, you can get a few of them for the water area and the water quality will definitely benefit. As far as fish go, a couple of minnows might fit, but boy I have found those things will breed like bonkers. Maybe neon tetras given the size of your water area, although I can't say I'm an expert on their breeding behaviors. If you would just like something entertaining in your water area, consider a snail or perhaps a shrimp, both of which will aid in cleaning duties.
I do keep cherry barbs in my water area,
although my fbt while in a 10 gallon tank is heavily in favor of water area and they seem to appreciate the added room.
Oh, shrimp would be cool in there! I read that fbt eat guppies so I thought they could do a dual purpose...entertaining and food...lol.
You want to be careful with eating fish. Most cheap feeder fish have potential parasites.
