I say it'd be best if you're getting frogs that everyone can enjoy, meaning you and your wife are both home at night so nocturnal frogs wouldn't be so bad as you can both view them when they're awake, at least for a short period of time.
However, if you're looking for a frog that is going to be shown to guests I would go with a frog that is awake during the day.
But as always, I am an advocate of tree frogs, which are all nocturnal.
