Need advice, again.

My vet used gloves when handling Bruce the first time, but the subsequent times after that she just picked him right up with dry hands to examine him.

Yeah it seems like the right thing to do! I had the same idea but some others with whom I was doing field work stopped me and told me what the gloves can do to amphibians. So I like to pass on the word.

But every time I've handled Bruce since then I've just rinsed my hands thoroughly with soap and water, made sure all the soap was gone and the soap smell had left my hands, dried them to the bone, then moistened them again with frog safe water from his spray bottle. I even spray him down a little so his skin doesn't stick to my hands and pull.
