Oh I haven't used the latex gloves since he was sick, but thanks for saying that, I never would have known. My vet used gloves when handling Bruce the first time, but the subsequent times after that she just picked him right up with dry hands to examine him. I trusted her though and she only helped him for a few minutes to examine him before setting him back down again so I didn't pull out my spray bottle. XD
But every time I've handled Bruce since then I've just rinsed my hands thoroughly with soap and water, made sure all the soap was gone and the soap smell had left my hands, dried them to the bone, then moistened them again with frog safe water from his spray bottle. I even spray him down a little so his skin doesn't stick to my hands and pull.
I only take him out if I have too...well no that's a lie, sometimes I just can't help myself. But I don't handle him every day and certainly not for long periods of time. It's usually anywhere between 3-10 minutes of ACTUAL holding, and I limit myself as best I can. He was sick recently and I find taking him out and checking on him every few days eases my mind that he won't get sick again.

You're welcome. ^ ^ No problem, I always give compliments when they're due. It's much easier to believe someone if they have the necessary tools to present you with. That's an interesting line of work you have, being on a frog forum. XD But we welcome any insight you have, I think the admins are happy to have new members who have different points of view.
Yeah I was pretty sure of that as well but then I saw this adorable picture on the front page Frog Forum - iatakden's Album: My Whites ! - Picture and was a little surprised to see the size difference between these two White's. O: (Sorry itatakden, I'm not stealing you're picture I'm just using it as a reference, I hope that's ok with everyone. ><)

I must say Bruce is looking quite a normal weight now. Looking good. Dog shrink, have u gotten a frog yet!?!?!
Well thanks Ginger! Looks like my diet is actually working. ^ ^ He still has a little trouble climbing and will slide down the glass when he tries to explore but coming up soon I'm sure he'll be able to climb effortlessly like he's supposed to!I wish I had a little froggy scale like the kind they use at the vet's office. Oh well =shrug=
And that's a good question, DO you have any frogs Kel? O:

Noooo not yet. My son is still debating between a whites and a barred tiger salamander, but that doesn't stop my research and education on them
I'm like really OCD about making sure there are NO surprises when investing in a pet and want to know everything first. Even if he decided on the salamander I might still get a Whites for myself
I love their chubby little selves.
I miss the fun we use to have with our Bufo Miss.Toad:
Eyeballing that worm
But the salamder is so intriguing... Sooo many choices so few aquariums![]()
I certainly hope that my not having a frog/toad yet gives my responses any less validity tho.
FYI you can pick up a gram scale at wal mart or home depot/lowes for like $7-$12 bucks.
I have found in my line of work it is better to stay away from forums geared towards my expertise as it usually ends in fights, and head butting and chest puffing. I belong to several herp forums tho like this one, caudata.org, geckoforums.net, chameleonforums.com, thetegu.com, and soon bluetonguedskinks.net.
Oh thanks for the info I never would have guessed I could pick something up like that at a store. XD But why wouldn't I be able to? DUH.
I'm always an advocate for White's, they're the best tree frogs! Though I have to admit I have 0 experience in caring for other species, white's are the way to go. ^ ^

Oh alrighty. XD I wasn't planning on using the gloves anyway after I heard that he couldn't be harmed from my cold or any other illnesses I may have, I was just concerned with skin-to-skin contact since frogs use that organ to drink, I didn't want him "drinking in my illness", as it were. But now that I know he can't be harmed from that stuff I definitely won't be using the gloves unless I feel them completely necessary for a short period of time. I was a little worried about touching his open wounds with my bear skin when he had the lesions on this leg so I think if he did get something like that again I wouldn't feel safe unless I used gloves. oh dogshrik, dont take it went! Itsbeen 2 weeks since u joined and u r first post was like what frog to get. So no decision yet? I thaught kisa and had u sold on whites. What r u doing for a tank or whatever, no matter what yr getting, u should be setting up already. Just curious
that was a little difficult to read but I jjust kinda filled in the blanks with what I thought you meant so I hope I'm answering this right...
I didn't really get a whole lot of responses in my "what to get" thread, so I've been doing the research on my own on the types we were interested in. In doing that research is when we came across tiger salamanders watching youtube videos of frogs (don't ask me how they came up I have no idea), The boy saw those and was like oooh... asked me about them, what they ate etc, and was really excited about them becauase they eat earthworms (well that and their tiger colors) and he LOVES digging up earthworms, and the whole frog thing kinda wained a bit as he went all OCD on salamanders so that's why we're still up in the air about things.
When we do decide tho I have a 20 gallon tall aquarium that would be set up all nice and proper like for whatever species will occupy it. I want to decide first as I'm sure there's some different set up requirements depending on species of frog/toad that will go in there, and the 20 long I have for the salamander is currently occupied with a mediterranean gecko that stowed away on one of the oil meters that was shipped to my hubby's shop from Huston, so until I set up the 10 gallon we have that was suppose to be for a gold fish for the gecko we're kinda in a hiatus. Geesh that sounds like playing musical tanks doesn't it![]()
