Default Green and Golden or Southern Bell Frogs

    Hi
I bought my frogs as tadpoles and they were sold as Whistling Tree frogs Ebony then told me they were Green and Golden Bell frogs. But I just went on to Trademe and there are Southern Bell frogs for sale and they look exactly like my frogs so could someone please clear it up, check out my album to see photos of them.
    Thanks

Hi Luke...Your frogs are definatly Green & Golden bell frogs (Litoria aurea). One of them does have similar colouring, but its definitely not a Southern Bell (Litoria raniformis) Southern bell frogs have a distinct green line down the centre of the back and the skin texture is bumpy. Here is an example of both. The first Photo is of a Green & Golden and the second is the Southern bell. See the line down the back and the raised bumps..quite different. Their colouring can be quite similar though so it is common for people to get them mixed up. I hope this helps.

    Hi Ebony
Thanks for clearing that up just thought I would be certain as the ones on trade me look very similar to mine.
    Thanks Luke

Hi welcome to the forum. They are Litoria Auria not Raniformis, I thought they were Litoria Ewingii when I first got them as that is what they were sold as but Ebony cleared that up for me. I then thought they were Raniformis but Ebony showed me they are Litoria Auria. They are very dark I haven't seen any others like them either. I think it is because Dunedin is cold dark and miserable lol.

    Lol I know.
I think the people on trade me had got their species mixed up that's what confused me and I was new to frogs at this stage so wasn't sure.
