    Talking Hey from NW Pa.

Hey everyone... My name is Kellee, my friends call me Kermie (yes like Kermit the frog, some spoof on me being french canadian or some spit like that). I live in North west Pa. right near the Ohio border. I'm kinda new to reptiles/herps. I owned a ball python years ago and my older son has one now named Loki. I have 2 boys ages 14 and 5, have been happily married for 10 years this October (10 years??? WOW...). I'm not really that exciting. I love spending time with my family and our pets, and it's like Noah's ark here. I also own a leopard gecko named Eros, and have had toads in the past as well, just your run of the mill garden caught bufos. Nothing special.

My older son and I breed and show rabbits in the American Rabbit Breeder Association (ARBA) sanctioned shows, we breed netherland dwarfs and french lops (kinda put the lops on hiatus for now and are focusing on the netherlands) and we are like 1 show away from our first home grown grand champion (YAY). Once my younger son turns 6 he can in 4-H cloverbuds programs and start showing his own rabbits.

I am an Animal Behavior Specialist (hence the nick). I own and operate Compatible Canine Companions in Erie County Pa. I have practiced in that field for almost 17 years. There's a link to our web site in my profile. I specialize in dogs. Aggression disorders, canine communication and pack dynamics to be more specific. I do foster work, rescue, and transport as well as pretty much anything dog related.

My younger son has been recently bitten by the herp bug and now wants a toad/frog of his own. We have been looking at the Whites tree frog, the white lipped tree frog, and the european green toad as good candidates for my 6 year old. Any imput as to what direction to go for his future pet would be greatly appreciated. Nothing that is going to require a 50/50 wet/dry environment preferred. Something that he can handle on occasion (he's more the type that he likes to take it out and feed it or let it walk around his room rather than carry it around the house). I've also always loved red eye tree frogs and have been considering setting up a small viv with one or 2 of those for myself, so anything y'all can add to my knowledge base about the Red eyed tree frog (something owner experience maybe that isn't on the caresheets) would be appreciated.

So that's pretty much me... looking forward to learning and seeing y'all around the boards. I love the vibe I've gotten so far just from parusing some of the forum threads. This looks like a nice place to be

    Peace

I say go with whites, they are more personable and funny. Smart and comical. I could go on and on. I've never owned the other species, but whites are more forgiving if heat and humidity. And the big plus. U can hold them on occasion. After a somewhat long adjustment time, let them get to know sounds of home. Go look up all species in u tube, that'll help u decide, see them in action. Good luck. Also set up your cage a month ahead, get temp, humidity, and plants settled in. Search on this site for plants, lights, under tank heaters, you'll find a lot of info.

    Welcome to Frog Forum, Kellee

White's are nice, but aquatic frogs are fantastic!

    Welcome Kellee!

Thank you for sharing your extensive background. That is amazing and good work you are doing! You are a busy woman!

I would agree in saying I think the White's would be a good candidate for your son! Let us know what you decide on.
