Also I have read a heat pad on one side of the tank is reccommended but I have a couple friends that have had nothing but success with no added heat source? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

same here my young pacs and pixies go on damp kitchen roll that way its easy to see when they have soiled and no worrys of ingestion and they dont need alot of space more so the small ones when they are bulked up abit put them in a more scenic enclosure,
