Default Something is wrong with my BigEyed Tree Frog..

I have two peacock/big eyed tree frogs and they were both very healthy and active. Then all of a sudden I didn't see one of them for a few days. I looked all in the plants and everywhere he could be but he wasn't hiding in anything, so I figured he must be in the substrate (there was no way he could have gotten out). Then finally last night he came out but he just perched on the water bowl and he kept making weird movements like he was trying to wipe something off of him with his arms/legs. I misted him with water but that didn't help. It looked like there was something on his side but I couldn't tell if it was an infection or something just stuck there. He wasn't being active at all. I let him be, and when I looked for him this morning it was evident that he was back hiding in the substrate.

I guess my first question is do these frogs hibernate? And then given everything else I have described, what could be his issue?

soulds like hes trying to shed. these frog are know to burrow even thought they are a treefrog. does he open his mouth like a gasp for air?

Yes I did notice him doing that. I had no idea these frogs shed (there is a huge lack of information about them online). So you think he is okay?

Im pretty sure all frog shed. most of the time when I catch any of my frog sheding
I allways see them trying to " wipe " their face or right where their eyes are.
the gasping is just them trying to slough the skin up to the mouth.
as for what was stuck to him a pic would be great but if he was burrowing then it
    might just be substrate.

There might be a bit more info in L. vermiculatus on thefrog.org.
    are thes leptopelis or uluguruensis.
