I want to plant a few cheap plants in my whites tree frog terrarium, was considering a few marigolds just for the heck of it and to see if plants will grow well in my setup, however I remembered that marigolds are often planted around gardens to keep pests out and I wasn't sure if they are poisonous to my froggies or if they would be okay. Anyone have any thoughts?
Hey there, personally I wouldn't recommend it. Marigolds are known to repel many invertebrates because they let off a certain unattractive odour. Frogs have a keen sense of smell, so this could stress out you frog.
Another possible problem is that roots of marigolds release a chemical which can kill some smaller nematodes, and with an animal with sensitive skin like a frog, it could probably cause irritation. Also of course with an osmoregulatory system like a frog I wouldn't risk your frog taking in these chemicals, could probably make your frog very ill.
However, this is just an educated guess - an expert may think otherwise!
Use internal search and type in plants you'll get allot of answers. U can use most anything at Walmart. Just google names to make sure they're not poisonus. Good luck
Okay, thanks for the advice guys!
I've made a bunch of replies on plants the last few days. But one that does well being cut to size is corn plant. U can cut it, place in water to root, the bald stalks will then sprout out sides on top, so u have a house plant and frog plant. Some are desert varieties, and have sharp edges when u run your finger up. Plants are cheep right now, good luck shopping.
Okay thanks for the help!
