Just wanted to throw this question out for discussion. So I commonly here fire belly toads refered too as frogs by people. So how closely related are they to a frog? I've looked at different stuff on the net but never really found the same answer twice.
Ready, Set, Discuss.
True toads are from the family bufonidae, which the fire bellied toads are not a part of. They are in the Bombinatotidae family which includes all six species of firebellied toads. The thing is they have a lot of physical characteristics of what people think of toads. The warty skin is a big one. I personally think its just semantics.![]()
" I personally think its just semantics."
I agree.
Much the same can be said when applied to the question 'What's the difference between newts and salamanders?' also ......
Newts generally have a "triple life" - aquatic larvae, a terrestrial juvenile eft and an aquatic or semi-aquatic adult. Once again, all newts are salamanders. Semantics!
I agree with Cheri. FBTs are not true toads, but then all toads are frogs![]()
