Ok new to the forum and the hobby..

But luckily I did a good few months researching before I got a viv and a frog. I got a juvy amazon milk frog from a breeder at my local reptile show. Problem is I do not know the proper substrate for my viv. It's well planted and has a river running through through it. It is a false bottom with clay pebbles then screen then what I believe is sphagnum moss. Unfortunatly, I have found alot of mixed opinions on the substrate for this little guy. Thanks for your time, any or little help is still help!

The reason that there is mixed opinions is that some people are concered about frogs swollowing the moss which could lead to impaction. I use sheet moss to cover my substrate which is short and dense.. it almost looks like green carpet if thats a good description. Other people put down leaf litter or other types of live moss. You can also use cricket bowls so that the frog cant swollow other things with the crickets. I'm sure you've noticed as they feed they open their mouthes pretty wide and a lot of stuff can go in with the crickets. You just want to try to avoid that as much as possible.

I've found that moss can harbour mites very readily, I use coconut fibre now, was hell getting rid of those mites!

Well mites are not harmful to frogs, so no biggie.

Can I soak sphagam like normal, then freeze it to be rid of mites? Would this work?
