    Question Urmm...

Well I seem to have a problem (maybe). I have an african clawed frog (a male). He's about 4 inches with his legs stretched. He's also about 4 or 5. He, um, *escaped* his tank the other day. He was only out of his tank for like 10 minutes, and I put him right back in. He still looked moist at least... Anyway back to the issue here. He's still swimming and eating so im not too worried and have since patched his escape tunnel.

This is him prior to his escape.
(He refused to come out of the rock cave)
He was a greenish Brownish color, Black pads under his arms (he is a male), and a white under belly.

This Is Him after the escape.
Pretty Light colored-- almost white. And a patch of dark on his head. (His nuptial pads on his forearms are also darker it seems..

This happened pretty much overnight, I do not know why. He is eating and swimming like nothing happened. He seems to be normal. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Oh and what is that spot on his head, it's like the color he used to be.

Minor skin injuries will often heal themselves if the frog is kept in a clean, stress free environment. Often times, open sores can lead to bacterial infection. There is a product called Lymnozyme, a pro-biotic available at most tropical fish stores, that can be used on a regular basis to prevent bacteria from infecting your frog. I suggest doing a 50% water change and add the pro-biotic. When doing water changes, make sure the water is conditioned and the temperature is no greater than 5 degrees (F) than the water in the tank. You can use any good quality water conditioner, I have used Stress-Coat for many years without any problems.

Welcome to Frog Forum! There are many people here that keep clawed frogs so feel free to ask any questions, that's why we are here

So do you think he's injured? Or just strange..? He's still alive and well, singing, swimming and eating. So i'm really confused.

It is very likely that the frog will heal itself (if that is actually an injury). Unexplained discoloration of the skin usually indicates a disease or injury. I recommended the use of Lynmozyme because it helps prevent many of the diseases that clawed frogs get.

As long as the frog is behaving normally, there isn't much to worry about. When t comes to frogs, it is much easier to prevent problems than to treat them.

I suggest getting another clawed frog, they seem to do better in small groups.

I want to get him a girlfriend but all thats arouns here is the little ones (babies) I want an albino for him. The last one I got didn't grow at all for like 5 months and then spazzed out and died.. Also he'll eat them so I'm looking for a resonably priced full grown female (or at least one he can't eat.
