Today I traded in my Chinese Algae-eater (got him by mistake, confused for a Siamese Algae-eater) for a pair of little froglets!
They are the same as my others (H. Boettgeri) and they are SOO tiny and cute!
I am quite sure that they are both females, though it is hard to guarantee at this age.
Right now they are in a QT tank with a small pump, rocks, and a few (live & fake) plants to make it more "homey" until they are ready to be moved into the 30 gallon and meet the others.
Just wanted to share.
I couldn't get that great of photos cause I don't want to bug them that much.
Here is ones of the babies.
And for comparison, here is an adult female.
Congrats! And they are cute! Keep us posted on their progress.
Thanks, Jace!
I will be sure to keep you all posted.
They sure are cute though, I can't get over it!
After feeding them and examining them again, I think that one might be a male.
I'm not going to officially declare anything before I'm positive.
I am the worst person at sexing frogs, but I always try anyway! Not like the frogs and toads are going to hold it against me-I'm the one with the crickets!!
Haha - you've got that right!
It can be darn tricky sometimes! Especially when you're dealing with a species that show little variation in terms of color/pattern between sexes.
The main cause of difficulty, IMO, is the fact that most of the traits that you go on when sexing these frogs don't become visible until sexual maturity, at which time such traits become quite obvious nearly simultaneously. It makes it kind of a guessing/waiting game, but it's all in good fun!
It's official, the newbies are one male and one female.
It's meant to be!
awwww I love new froggies!!!
names? lol - I name every frog I get...its sick I know.
and how are your tadpoles doing? what stage are they at?
You aren't alone on that one, Jen!
Markus & Jamally are the two adults.
I've decided to name the new female Banjo, but the male doesn't have one yet.
Any suggestions?
As for the tadpoles, I have some bad news I have been meaning to post.
The power went out and we lost all but one.
The little survivor, named Lucky (for obvious reasons) is doing great, though.
He/she is growing very quickly and the front legs should break through any day now.
aw I am so sorry about your babies - -I had the opposite happen to me - - my heater went on the fritz and fried a whole batch of 3 day old tadpoles on me.
I hope this means you are keeping Lucky
hmm...Banjo and...? I'll work on that one for you!
Thank you Jen.
Ah, stupid heaters. Nearly had the same thing happen a while back with a batch of guppies!
Yes, I will definitely be keeping Lucky.
Can't wait until he is old enough to go in the main tank and meet his folks!
Banjo and ....... Kazooie???
Hmmm... I actually really like that....
Even just Kazoo is cute.
I think you may have just named my frog, Gav!
Excellent. i hope banjo and kazoo(ie) do well
They are!
Growing fast and already very used to me, they don't even hide from my hand anymore!
