I understand most people treat the water. I read and re-read water forum. And I'm confused. No strict guidelines, I need specifics. I think my well water is too good for frogs. I'm in a glacial spring area. My water reads on dip test strip as follows
Nitrate=0
Nitrite=0
Alkalinity=60
Hardness=0-25very soft
Ph=6.8
Now would copper up the hardness?
I got test strips and aqua Safe today. I don't think I have2 use treatment right? How's all my levels, are they almost too low. I heard very clean water strips minerals from frogs. Is this the case ?
I wouldn't sweat it. Absolutely pure water like RO/DI/Distilled can have harmful effects, but only under extreme circumstances like a frog being forced into a container of it for an extended period of time. Water that has filtered through the ground down to your well will have picked up enough mineral content to not be a problem, and it can also pick up more dissolved minerals and organics through contact with your substrate in the terrarium.
thanks, thaught ph and hardness were too low. I've had whites change color in last 2 of 4 weeks I had them. So I been looking at all aspects. I will return water treatment. There's no copper pipes, but copper in the land. Well debth is only 5 feet. Was going to go up flambeau mountain to get even cleaner water. Guess that's not required.
What ever you do just make sure your frog's water is copper free. Ecological Toxicity Information | Region 5 Superfund | US EPA
how do u specificaly test for copper, I thaught that would luke make water hard in dip test. I just dip tested some melted snow and this spring tested lower in everything exept ph. I didn't see any specific test for copper at store. I'd hate to add that aquasafe, without needing it. Thanks kevin![]()
hey kevin, just wanted to say my dad kinda answered my stem question. Lead makes water hard and copper makes it soft, with how soft my water is, it's a worry. And with chunks of copper being dug up just about everywhere. I am treating. Thanks.
