Still shy but hoping to get it to start taking foods from my hand soon.
Patriot crab
I'll be on the look out for Vampire and Halloween crabs next
.
Nice photos! I'm hoping to get some Halloween crabs sometime in the near future. What is the green in the picture that he is sitting in? Really makes the picture pop with the contrast of the green and the crab, love it.![]()
I almost bought a Halloween crab for Xmas! They are so neat to watch. Congrats on the Patriot crab. It really is a beauty. Hmm, Vampire crab? Sleep with one eye open and a stake by the bed!!![]()
Very nice! Great photos too
Looks cool! Our halloween crab is a jerk! lol. Its fills its water dish with substrate in about 2 hours. Gave it a hide...it burrows under the hide. Funny lil guy.
Ahhh, rainbow crab! At least thats what they are called here in the UK!! I used to have one a few years ago. He would tap on the glass all night wanting to be fed, had such a personality. Quite spooky when they shed their exo skeleton too! Enjoy!
Regards
Thanks
I missed the opportunity to get a Halloween crab the last time they had some in.
The green is just my green 5 gallon bucket.
lol
Vampire crabs are smaller and can be kept communally, and best part can be bred in captivity.
Thanks
hahah
I have waterdish for mines as well, two water dishes actually 1 fresh and 1 brackish.
They do go by quite a few names around here, rainbow and patriot crabs are just two of them. Can't wait till mines start being more interactive like yours did.
Yeah they don't take long to 'come out of their shell'!
I'll get my coat....
Mines hasn't come out much, too busy making tunnels in the sand.
What did you use to feed yours?
Sounds like a happy crabMost people don't provide enough sand for proper burrowing. But it's essential.
My crab used to eat sinking pellets, prawns, white fish, peas, bloodworms (sparingly), small pieces of chicken etc....
If im honest, they'll eat whatever you put in front of them. They're scavengers after all. But a good base diet would be pellets prawns and the occasional veg item. It's important not to overfeed them though, they don't seem to know when they're full!
Regards
Thanks
He has about 4" of white sand to play around in and two pieces of cork barks for cover. Pellets are his staple food with the occasional greens and misc. food items thrown in.
That's good.
Variety is the key with these little guys, mine always used to graze on aquatic plants such as elodea, or other cuttings from my other tanks
A bit of 'food for thought' i suppose
On a more serious note, if you ever come into a problem with him, or have a question, please ask![]()
Regards![]()
Thanks.
Will do.
Beautiful crab pics! I wasn't sure if there would be other crab owners on here or not. I've got 14 land hermits. I am tempted by rainbows but fell in love with horned frogs and went for one of those instead . I used to have some beautiful strawberry hermits but they died of old age . I met a Halloween crab at my pet suppliers shop last year and it scared me... Coconut crabs scare me more!
Superb pictures, good camera work.
Is there any chance you can take some pictures of him in his environment please? I would like to see your set up![]()
Wow!! very nice photo's Eel Noob.![]()
