Ya, I'm not sure. They say females up to 5" common is 4.5". But then I hear that there are smaller varieties with max females up to 4". So since I got mine from a chain store there are no clear answers from them. We won't know if we have large or smalls for bout a year? And FYI they always say theyve been in store for a month. I watched my same frogs in there for two months. And when I baught them the manager stuck to the month answer even though I pressured her fir the truth. I would love to get mine from a reptile show but they're all 4 hours away. What a hard ride for a frog. But like resqued dogs, I think they know that their home is better. I find them quite intelgent little beings. Mine wait at appointed perch to eat at dinner time, since I hand feed. Toooo cute!!!!

Frog Update:The little guy is doing alright after all, thanks for the responses and reassurance. I found out I wasn't misting enough so I started misting for about a minute at a time and the humidity shot up in the 70's and low 80's. The frog sprawled out in his water bowl last night and I got him to croak for me a bit via youtube videos, but when I play them and run back to watch him he just stares at me. One day I'll catch him, I wanna see the throat fill up with air

That sounds adorable What are the names of yours?

Sad to hear about the chain store thing, but I suppose it makes sense. I called all the Petsmarts in my area looking for a Blue Dumpy (beautiful and only $25) and of the ones that had them, they were all "Oh we don't know how old they are, but we've had them for a month"

I was stuck with Petsmart though. There's a "Herpeton Exotic Pets" here with tons of animals, but I went in pre-researched and their tree frogs were hangin out in gravel substrate and the guy was talking about how yes they swallow it but they poop it right back out... and how I should get some heat basking lamp ( ) and yadda yadda. I wanted to rescue them all from their possible impaction but for my first frog I had to go with one that might be more well cared for. Petsmart had employees that knew all about frogs anyway, the Exotic Pets guys consulted a book when I asked questions!

well u know u have a boy. I named my greener one kermit and the brown one lump. Lump croaked back a couple times so he's a boy--but very shy. Just started to come out to feed in morning like kermit ( shouldve named her miss piggy) I asked don lisk about growth rates and if he could give me idea on how old ours are. But his were 1" in sept and now the size of ours. I just cut a 3" peice of paper to measure mine. I hope we get big ones!!! Mine have started to get their spots. Small white dots with brown around. I also heard that some breeders are going for real spotty ones. And others for ones with fewer spots. Spots are indication of age but I don't know how. I'm just going to feed them everyday, like they expect and wait for them to get "dumpy" and cut em back. I need to get to a real computer and post some Picts. I used a dangerous pebble in my terrarium, very bad, but I siliconed lumps of it together about 50 cent size. I noticed having stone over my heat pad holds more heat. As soon as spring comes I'm getting rid of all that gross moss and putting real stuff in. Tried that living moss, 3 weeks and it still looked dead.

Living moss? As in a type of moss you would purchase at a store - like "Frog Moss" or something? I heard it's great for holding humidity.

I'd love to see pics of Lumpy and Kermit, heh. I should probably get mine measured, I'll wait until tomorrow when I can get someone to hold him while I measure him. Seems to be 2.25" now, but he's all scrunched up and sticking to the top corner of the terrarium so I'm not sure if that counts :P

I would just measure him on the glass. Close enough. Not frog moss, I'm scared of impation, one reason I hand feed. No, I'd go to local greenhouse get Spanish moss or a Few varietys problably. Run it through a dripping hose over night and plant it. But just don't know how I'd clean after that. Maybe a false bottom with a screen, moss on top of that. So I can pull up whole thing and clean under it. People do it for arrow frogs. But they're not as dirty as whites. Can't use native moss cuz it dies. That frog moss is messy and stringy. Too bad I had to use a ton of it to get ground level with plant pots. I may have crowded my frogs a little with too much. I combed forum Picts for vivs, for months. But I think they like all the cover. I'll move things a bit after I clean. That's when I'll wish for simpler setup.

When did you start hand feeding, immediately? How long did it take your frogs to warm to you and such? I know mine keeps trying to crawl up my arm when I have to pick him up and doesn't want to get down, but when it comes to food he's not the pig I'm hoping he'd be (yet!). Refuses to hand or tong feed right now.

How often do you clean your whole tank out? The false bottom thing sounds to me like it could work, but I'm a complete amateur
