New to the site with a new Pacman

Good morning everyone. New to the site with a new pacman. I am thankful that I found this site!

Problem: I am new to the frog world and I am concerned about my new friend. He is about as long from thumb tip to second knuckle (a tad bit subjective I realize). I bought him from Petsmart. He is in a 10 gal enclosure with heat pad on the side. I mist the enclosure 2-3 times a day for ~80 degrees F and ~80% humidity. He has two fake plants in which to hid under. He has a water dish with just enough water to not drown him. He has a coco fiber substrate. He does have overhead lighting 15W x 2 that I turn on during the day and off at night for about 8 hours of light. Since I brought him home on the 21st, he has defecated once but is ignoring the crickets both running "wild" in the enclosure and by curved tongs.

I have since stopped trying to incite a feeding frenzy, but the count of crickets is the same every morning when I get home. He has burrowed in two different spots so I know he is moving during the night. When he went from his small enclosure at Petsmart to his new 10 gal house he seemed more PO'd than anything.

Is this normal for him or am I just being an overprotective Dad? I will be grateful for any help!

I would try him on a different food, for example nightcrawlers. He should have a healthy appetite but having a bunch of crickets running around constantly will stress him and that might explain his lack of appetite. Does he have a lot of ventilation? He needs a good amount of ventilation.

I believe he does....I will pop the top on the enclosure to see if that helps. I will also evict the crickets (4 or so).

I was thinking about taking him out of the enclosure and placing him in a large tupperware with some crickets.

Feeding in a tuberware box is a great idea so they don't get any substrate in there mouth, but it can stress the frog out having to pick him up to feed him every day or so

I'm kinda new still, but I notice with my guy he will eat twice a week and then go with out eating for 3-4 days and use the bathroom. Then he will eat again and the cycle will repeat it's self. I give him a nice warm soaking every other day. Witch he enjoys, since he stays in the water for 15-30 mins each time, sometimes longer. I feed him 2 large nightcrawlers or 4-6 large crickets, or 3-4 super worms, once a month he will get some nice tasty roaches as well. As for hiding he always goes to the same spot to sleep and hide. And I mean the same spot. Every week, I mix the bedding up just to keep it fresh.

Day 5 and he still has not eaten. I think I will buy some night crawlers from Wal-Mart tomorrow afternoon. Wish us luck!

hello there, i was having the same problem, ive got a fantasy frog 60mm he was not interested in crickets or wax worms or meal worms, i got some earth worms <night crawlers> from my local tackle shop and tried him with one, he went crazy for it now he is eating anything i put in front of him,

Thanks for the words of encouragement Spence. I actually went back to Petsmart and talked to the lady that sold me the frog and (grain of salt here) that if I wanted to I could just bring him back for an exchange. Nice. She really instills confidence.

Dusted superworms usually get my frogs to eat. Also rubbing the food item against its mouth will incite a feeding response.
