Fattening up a white's tree frog
Fattening up a white's tree frog
I was given a white's tree frog that is very skinny. the lady i got him from kept him in a rubbermaid tube w/ just substrate and a water dish. i think she may have been feeding him crickets but i doubt it was very often. what type of diet can i put him on that will give him quick weight gain?

Track down some butterworms if you can. They are nice and soft, and helped fill out a skinny frog I had. Mealworms would work too, but just don't feed too many at once and make sure your frog poops inbetween feedings as mealworms have a hard outer shell that can sometimes cause impaction if too many are fed at once.

Waxworms are really good. But not all frogs will go for them. I think it's an aquired taste.Mix them with plenty of crickets, and your frog will start gaining weight

would it help to move him to a tank of his own to insure he's getting enough food? right now he's shares terrarium with my other whites.

If it wouldn't stress him out to much, then yes. I've had to do that with a frog and toad here and there just to ensure they get to pig out first. It does help a lot if your frog can handle it.

If he is a big guy, you could go down to your local pet store and buy tiny mice for around $2 - $5. I used to feed my whites a mouse every now and then.
Skinks and small garden lizards will fatten them up as well if you could get your hands on some.
