    Default Sick RETF, Please help

Ok so I believe my red eye tree frog, Kiwi, is sick and in need of help as soon as possible.

I'll start with some relevant information. Light green spots first appeared on her back a little less than a week ago. As the pictures show more spots have begun to appear. The spots are nearly invisible during the day when her skin is light green. Her (assumed gender) tank substrate is coco husk eco-bricks and terrarium moss with a hydro ball drainage layer. For landscaping there is also a fake plant which I put in over a month ago after all the live plants died (rubber tree plant and...I want to say ivy), there is also a large piece of wood for the frog to climb, and of course the water bowl which I fill with spring water. The tank has a UV light during the day and a moonlight bulb on at night and I mist the cage once a day, usually with distilled water. Average cage temperature is probably around 75 with 70% humidity. Kiwi is the only frog in the cage. There used to be one other Red-Eyed Leaf Frog, Strawberry, but he died over a year ago when they were babies for reasons that are still a complete mystery to me. I have had Kiwi for about about a year and a half now.

I don't know if this has any relevance at all but lately I have had back to back illnesses, first a cough, now the flu, though I always make sure my hands are clean when handling anything in the cage.

Kiwi does not appear to be lethargic and is active at the right time of day. The only new behavior I have witnessed is she seems to be soaking in her water bowl a lot.

...thats all I can think of for now. If you want any more info or pictures, please ask. Any ideas?

Its hard to see from the pics but it probably is a bacterial infection. I would lower your humidity to the 50-60% range and get her to the vet as soon as possible. Tony suggested Baytril as a treatment maybe he could tell you where you could get it.

Yes I plan on asking him for more details about his treatment plan as it seems as though he has had great results with it.

Copy/paste of my reply from the other thread:

Neon green spots like what were shown in the original pictures are sometimes attributed to a bacterial infection, though I have never been told the name of the bacterium involved. I have had them show up on two occasions and had excellent results from moving the affected frog to a dry quarantine and treating with a 14 day round of Baytril. I used a large kritter keeper with paper towel substrate, a live plant, and a water dish for soaking. The dish was the only water source, I did not mist during the treatment.

Here is a photo of an A. annae male on the first night of treatment:

I got my Baytril from Dr Frye, he sends it diluted at the proper strength for amphibians and I used one drop per day applied to the frog's back. dr.frye.dvm@sbcglobal.net is his email, send him your pics and info and he can advise you on a course of treatment and provide the appropriate medications.
