Hello everyone. This is my first vertical tank conversion.
I had a few 10 gallon aquariums taking up space so I cannibalized one for the glass and got going. I took an end panel of glass and cut about 5 inches off of one end. I used this piece for the bottom of the now vertical setup. I made the door out of window screen materials, and added a piano hinge to one side. I secured the door to the hinge and the hinge to the inside of the rim with silicone. First I took some sandpaper to those surfaces though. I am working on a magnet latch, but have yet to complete that part. I used a full screen door for more ventilation, as opposed to a full glass door and small vent that is typical of Poison Dart 10 Gallon conversions.
I affixed the large rock in place with gorilla glue (awesome stuff). Then I filled with pea gravel, some plant netting, more gravel, sphagnum moss, organic potting soil, and finally more sphagnum moss. I planted a few on sale plants from the garden store, one 'Lemon Lime' Dracaena & one 'Lemon Button' Fern. I hope they work but am prepared to replant with more sutible plants if the need arises.
My gray tree frog - Finklehopper is loving his new found vertical space =)
