hello, i have a green tree frog in a ten gallon tank. i know it's not much room for many but i wanted to add one more frog. i was interested in the tiger legged monkey frog but am unsure if they are compatible with the green tree from temperment and enviornment wise. if not what other tree frog would you recommend for me? also i have a dirt substrate is that safe? i know not too get gravel but i was wondering if the dirt is okay. its chemical free, i got it in one of those blocks that you soak in water from the petstore.. thanks everyone!
It is best to stick with single-species enclosures until you have more experience with your frogs. Green tree frogs and tiger leg monkey frogs have different needs (especially the southern tiger leg species) and would not be a good mix.
Hi there passon13.
Sorry but its not a good idea to mix frog species as they can secret toxins to each other which can be very harmful. So I would stick to the same species.
Dirt/soil can be irritating to frogs as it sticks to the skin. You can put leaf litter on top or Moss which your frogs will love. Good to have you on the forum.![]()
I will agree with everyone else on this subject. No mixing. You want another frog, get another green treefrog.
I had two male GTFs in a 10 gallon and they did just fine. Definitely stick with the same species; mixing and matching will lead to the loss of one or both frogs down the road. Because GTFs like a slightly higher humidity, I put in a drainage layer topped with moss on the bottom of my setup for Rongo. He rarely comes down to ground level except to have a quick soak in his water dish, but the moss has really helped with humidity. Best of luck!
ok, thanks everyone for the reply
