Do pixies need lighting? cuz i have each one of my pixies confined in a cheap plastic pullout drawers for now. I am wondering if this need some type of lighting so i can give them some sunlight if i have to
Yes, pyxies require a 12 hour photo period each day.
I have never used a light for my pixie frogs, but I do agree they do need the photo period. If you are using a clear bin and the room that they are kept in is bright during the day you might be alright. Mine get light 8-10 hrs a day from ambient light.
Okay, i am planning on moving my pixies outside until it gets dark
What are the consequences of no light..does anyone know?
Well lighting will stimulate the frog's appetite because 12 hours of light simulates summer in Africa.
Like Tj said, It's natural for them. Also while I don't have scientific proof of this, I do believe that having a light cycle is good for their mental well-being.
what would you guys suggest for me to give them light, although i have them in a plastic drawer for now until they get bigger I'll put them in my fifty gallon then. What type of lighting and light bulb do you guys prefer
Where can i get that? local petshop? petco?
They are just normal eco-friendly bulbs. You can get them at like Walmart or Publix.
Okay thank you! i jsut put them outside right now for some sun lighting for now
Sun light is great. As long as they have a way to escape from it when needed. What are the outdoor temps like? I would imagine it'd be getting colder everywhere right now.
Yea, even in FL
It is about 75-80 degrees in southern california. with wind, but the sunlight was good. They had shade too and enough to burrow if it got too hot for them
Are the tupperware drawers clear/see through? I remember those are the only ones I see for sell around here,
