    Default RIP runt

My american green treefrog, runt, passed away. I feel bad because i didn't know he died until 1 or 2 weeks after he did because i just thought he was hiding somewhere like has happened 4 or 5 times before where I haven't seen him for 1 or 2 weeks but then i always saw him. This time i got scared and i found him under a log i had put in there. I think he died from old age because i heard green tree frogs only live 2 to 5 years and i had him for about 7 months but i think i got him when he was about 2 years old. The only other thing i think that could have happened is he died because the humidity in their tanks has been lower than usual because we have had to start using air conditioning i have restricted their ventilation now to keep the humidity up do you guys think i should continue to do this or stop also i have two other green tree frogs in the tank and they are doing fine

They don't hide like you describe unless the conditions are unsuitable or they're not being fed. 2 to 5 years might be a reasonable lifespan in the wild but I would expect them to live many more years in captivity. I urge you to do more careful research before thinking of getting another frog.

Sorry to hear about your frog. Why don't you post some pics of the remaining frogs and their enclosure so maybe we can give a few pointers to help you out. Also post your temps and humidity for reference. I'm sure you're trying to do what's best for their well being. Let us help you...advice is free here on the forum

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your other frogs are doing well. Can you please tell us what their diet is? What are you feeding, how much are you feeding and how often are you feeding? The more information that you provide the better someone can help.

Sorry to hear about your runt, I have 3 runts and they are hiding most of the time too. I had been taking them out to feed, but it was very stressful and I decided to start feeding them in their tank. They hide most of the time and I too have been concerned, but every once and a while one will bounce by. I would be devestated if one died with out me knowing so I am going to serach around and check them, now!
Please take the time to post as much info as possible with some pics of the remaining frogs. The people here have valuable info and will give you plenty of help, if you want it. They have been very helpful to me and my Gray Tree frogs and I am sure many or any would have survived if I didn't find this site. Best of luck with the remaining frogs and sorry again for your loss.

    Temperature: 68 to 75
Humidity: I try to keep the humidity about 50 to 70 but i often have problems with it and because of the air conditioning i have had it reach down to 20 lately even though i have sprayed it down to 1 hour ago but today i put tinfoil on top of each tank to keep it up and so far it has worked really well
Diet: I feed them each 2 crickets according to size i have put 2 large ones in one tank and the 2 small ones in another and i feed them every other day.
