A few days ago, while watching tv, I heard one of the eight, now in the large tank, start to make some noises. I turned the tv off and sure enough I heard several odd noises coming from the tank. I proceeded to make the Gray Tree Frog call, which was answered by that one frog. It sounds more like a dog barking softly with laryngitis, very cute...for now anyway. I kept trying to encourage him to call by calling to him, but after a few tries he stops. A few hours later I heard him again. Since then I have heard him try to call several times towrds the later evening every day since that first day I heard him.
The day before yesterday, out of nowhere again, I heard the same frogger chirpping, so like before I started to call back to encourage him, but this time something else happened...two other frogs sat up at turned and looked right at me! They watched me for a few minutes then made their way to the front of the tank seemingly to see who or what was calling to them. They came right to the front looking right at me, but neither made any noises, except for the regular one who didn't move at all!
After a good look, I guess they decided I wasn't what they were looking for, they made their way back to where they had been before they whole calling thing started.
I am very surpried to see and hear that the one is calling, but it's not flub chin and he's actually one of the smallest frogs of the buch. The two that bounced to the front, but didn't call, are only slightly larger than the one calling, about 1 1/2 inches if that!
***Could I assume that the two who bounced forward for a better look are male as well or will females react this way too?
It is really a wonderful thing to get to raise them from tadpoles and watch them grow and develope. Even though I am not overly excited about them calling at all hours of the night, for now the calls they are making are soft enough and cute enough that it is enjoyable.
