    Default Recieved my baby!!!!!!

WOHOOOOO ive decided to name this little one Rumper Tumkskin (south park reference) arrived from LLLreptile safe sound and HUNGRY i fed it 4 adult crickets, and it has proceeded to burry itself slightly! im so excited that my pyxie adventure has begun! heres a picture of the little guy

The little red spot in front of him is a reflection on the water of the reptile light for another cage! he really likes the water area ive given the enclosure

Here is an overview of his enclosure, it has a hollowed hide log in the lower section

here is the swimming area up closer

Thanks guys for all the help, i plan to be a regular here from now on!

    That looks really great.
Sort of how I want to set up my 10g for my frogs[though less water and more trees/vines].

What have you got in there to prevent the water from flowing into the soil? Like a platic container? I want to incorporate something like that, but on a lesser scale.

its a large critter carrier with a fluval filter in it some fake plants glued to it so as to make a sort of stairway out, he can hop out as well on any of the sides, plexyglass up to the critter carrier to prevent him from burrowing under or around, and large river rocks around the swiming area for the same purpose

So is it the more colorful its female, male?

Mine is getting the yellow around its arms but is a duller green and loosing his side stripes somewhat.

could be either , there is still a chance mine is female, though everyone does think its male on mine, I've fallen in love with this species. But generally, more yellow the bigger chance of being male. if the head keeps getting wider, thats another indication of male. but sometimes you get a smaller headed male, or bigger headed female I've noticed from forums also. Males always get bigger then the females though I dont call my biggest one my pet anymore, I just call him my child,, he is so spoiled he wont eat his least fav foods anymore LOL

Color isn't an indicator. How does your filter do with your frog? I bought a big 45-gallon fluval 206 filter for my adult male, but haven't set it up yet. He doesn't go to the bathroom that much, but when he does, it looks like a dubia colony exploded in the water.

Filter works great, I don't think I could justify a $99 canister filter, however that would be the best thing to use considering substrate. I use live plants in my water (+ shrimp who eat food particles from the poop) so I don't always scoop the poop or its already broken up quite a bit and impossible to get. Floaters I do scoop out. Also, I rinse out the sponge every 3-4 days to get the flow better. Mine has a movement every day so he does quite a bit in the water, actually haven't seen him do it anywhere else.

Nice man! He's a healthy pyxie already going in his water. Just an idea for when your frog gets a little older: take the plastic critter out, cut the plexiglass wall down a little, level the dirt to wall level, turn the whole other side into a water area, 50/50 half land half water. Have you checked out the care sheet on pyxie's yet? Have fun with your frog, they have extreme appetites and grow quick!

yea Ive looked at several care sheets, 3-4 adult crickets a day once a week a cricket dusted with calcium. 75-85 degrees, keep substrait moist, not sure on how to handle when they shed but il look into it more. thanks for the comments though

What model underwater filter are you using? Also, is it a good idea to add a large water source for them. I'd like to have a nice aquatic area for mine. I have my baby in a 2.5gal tank but bought a 20gal long for when he is grown or should I just put him in it and set a plexi divider?

its a fluval filter not sure the model name, it has the sponge and the carbon filter, it was 66 bucks, aquatic areas are fine from what i hear as long as they can get out easily. id do a 29 gallon as it gives more room to work with.

Cool, I have a 29gal thats being used as my communal scorpion tank house about 35 babies I could sawp them to the 20gal and use the 29. When using a tank that large for a baby is it hard for them to hunt/eat? Awesome setup and frog btw!

I have to dig up my little fatty each night to feed him. He like to burrow all the way down to the glass.

lol, yes you will my big dwarf makes tunnels everywhere in his tank so I usually have to dig up half the tank to find him, i think he feels as if he should be a worm.

I just got to thinking about how to make a 50/50 tank. You could use a paint tray liner for teh aquatic side since they taper down to a deep end and all the way up to the lip so a natural slope. plus you wouldn't near nearly as much depth.
