    Default It's Mercutio again!

Merc is getting to be such a heartstopper. I love him to death, but he nearly scares me to death about once a week. He's taken to burrowing like it's going out of style. No clue why, it's fine that he does it, but boy does he scare me sometimes! I was out of town for business last weekend, leaving my boyfriend to take care of him, and when I get home I can't find him anywhere visible! After 30 minutes of tearing apart the viv, I found him literally in the last patch of substrate I had to scoop out. This was after pulling out all the plants, logs, moss, and checking for any disturbances in the cocofiber. He was under about an inch of soil, directly under where I have his water bowl. The viv has been solidly in the 60%-70% humidity range for the last two months, so not quite sure what's up with that, but I expected it as it's part of what the species does. I get a little paranoid about not being able to find him though, as he escaped twice from his old setup (one of the times almost killed him).
He sleeps in the oddest places too. This morning, I woke up to find him sleeping on top of his humidity gauge. Yesterday, he was wedged between the bamboo and the wall. Last week, he fell asleep on the mesh I use to keep him off of the fluorescent light bulb I have in there for plants. He also loves to sleep right in front of the computer fan vent I have to pull in fresh air from outside the viv.
He's loving the newest arrangement I've done, as it gives him access to almost every cubic inch of the viv, with lots of room to climb on anything from the extreme top to the floor level and hang out on plants or logs anywhere in-between.
About a month ago, he started calling. I love the BETF call, it's so cute! He doesn't call often, but it is a very quiet "quack" sound, usually only done once every few minutes for about 1/2 an hour.

Here's a pic of him from today (clicking on the image will remove the distortion):

He's Leoptomis vermiculatus. Not sure what species Rosie's is.

Do any of your males do a ringing sound and the clack? It sounds like r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-yum. I have leptopelis vermiculatus as well, and I just love their calls! They are my frog hobby focus.
