I just wanted to thank everyone who suggested ways to help Enoch the Western Toad grow a bit better. I added heat to his enclosure, and he has become more active and eaten more. However, because he was in such a small setup, I had to be very careful not to overheat. So, today, I decided to set him up in a 5 gallon so I could place the heat lamp over part of his tank (his log to be specific) and still have a cool zone (where his water dish is). I included some pictures so if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
As well, how moist should his dirt be kept? Should I let it dry out slightly between mistings, or keep it constantly damp?
As well, here are some size comparison photos.
First photo-August 2010; second photo-October 2010; third photo-November 2010.
I'd let the surface of the dirt get a little dry between mistings. Enoch is such a great name for a toad. He's growing like a weed! You might need a 10-gal soon.

Thanks! I got his name from a fantasy art calendar-no idea if it's actually a he, but the name seems to fit!! I have a ten gallon on standby. Since I put him in the new setup, he has snuggled into the moist dirt right under the heat lamp. Hope that is a good sign!
Lol-well, I hope he sticks with me because I'm rather attached to him. He took a dip in his water dish and seems to be motoring around in the cooler section of his home right now. He sure has long legs!!
Sweet looking toad, really like it's colors
Thanks! I have never seen one with his colouring before, so I hope he keeps them as he matures. Either way, he's a pretty handsome little fellow.
