    Default Water test kit

Before I go adding any water treatment to my tap water (actually it comes out of a hose in the back yard straight from the well), I would like to test it first to see if it indeed needs treated. I looked online and 50 dollars seems like a lot to pay for a water test kit. Is this the going rate for such kits? Anyone know where I could get one without having to order online? I guess I need one that tests for pH, chlorine and heavy metals, is that correct? Thanks

You can get test strips for ph at a much lower cost. If you don't get your water from a well, then it has chlorine or worse yet chloramine and as far as heavy metals go I'm not totally sure how you would test for them, but there are a number of aquarium water treatments that purport to reduce heavy metal issues. Fish stores would be the place to look for any and all such items.
