    Default Froggie troubles

Hi every1, it has been a while since I been in here, my apologies... my female grey has just started not eating since 2 days ago, she is kind of swollen and shiny, looks as though she is about to shed as she has done many times, but she is usually a pig too when it comes to food so that is my concern and I realize it has only been a couple days but I am just a little worried and am hoping I am just overreacting, it is also getting cooler here so I don't know if that has anything to do with it even though she is inside where it is warm. also I know not to give them water fresh from the tap so I have water that I store in a jar and fill it every couple days so it is sitting at least 24 hours before I give it to the frogs.
here are some pics of my Little Miss Grey

on another note, my male has been trying to get closer to her, even though it is "off season" could she be preggo??
    maybe a stupid question

Hi there..good to see you on here again.

Its hard to say if theres a problem but if she continues not to eat and or becomes lethargic then I would get her to the vet asap. How old is she? I dont keep Grays Tree Frogs but she looks like a healthy frog to me. 2 days with out food would not concern me with my frogs but I would keep a very close eye on her though.

She was very small when I found her about 3 months ago so I am guessing she isn't quite a year or maybe not far from it anyhow, I know it only been a could days but she is usually a pig and goes right after the crickets when I put them in although I do find sometimes the crickets find good hiding spots so maybe they are in there for more than a day and she gets them later too and could be why she isn't hungry right now. She is in her favorite spot at the top on her log so she really isn't acting different other than the eating, I will just keep watching her...could it also be the vitamins I put on them? I put them on the last batch maybe she doesn't like the vitamins?? ah well I know I am acting a bit early on this but thought if something was wrong I would want to know before it was too late for help

I am a new owner of a young grey as well about an inch long maybe a bit longer and for awhile he was always waiting on his log to be fed... lately he hasnt he just stays stuck on the wall but the next morning the crickets are gone and sometimes if im up early i do catch him on his log.

from what ive read on this site im not too concerned about him....

As they get older the eat less not daily anymore, also i was told that they may feel the temperature/ season change even in a heated house. internal clock maybe lol.

Hopefully both of our frogs are just going through a lil faze and the winter and maturing factors are affecting them.

Hope this helps but as I said I am new at this, and could be completely wrong only had Frodo 3 weeks but ive been stalking this forum for grey tree frog information lol! Its great the care sheet and other posts have been a savior.

I was wondering about the hibernation thing, if she does quit eating and start to go into hibernation should I put her in a container with some dirt and set her in a safe place on my porch for the winter so she doesn't starve and can safely hibernate normally?

I wouldn't change anything, just keep an eye on her. They hibernate above ground so she shouldn't need any special accommodations. Ebony hibernates her frogs outside every year, hopefully she can give some more input here.

Gray Tree Frogs are hard-wired to hibernate. This time of year it is not unusual for them to slow down and stop eating. It looks fine to me and I suggest just leaving it alone and checking on it periodically to make sure it is doing well. Even in warm enclosures they can go into a torpor for a few months. Just keep feeding it small amounts of food and removing any uneaten food, they will awake and eat off and on. Even if you don't see it move watch under the throat for signs of breathing.
