    Default Gaint African bullfrog sexing

Well I was told I might have been lucky enough to have a male GAFB. So I've taken a photo to have a better birds eye view of my little monster Sorry the pix kinda sucks nasty weather outside and crappy lighting inside. But its in focus so it should do the job. I'm having a hard time seeing the differences of males from females at this size. If anyone cares to post comparison pix on this thread please do so. I'd think before sexual maturity both would appear the same. I know males have much larger mouths as adults yet can't see that trait in the babies as of yet.

Thanks in advance for any help

I'm thinking male depending on how bloated he is there.

I would also lean towards male, the base of the head is pretty wide.

Sure thing, but at this age sexing is only a guess. Time will only reveal the truth.

At about 4 inches most pyxie frogs can easily be accurately sexed. Judging by the pic, He doesn't look far from it.

Ah maybe half way. He was the size of a nickle 3 weeks ago when I got him. I'll measure him on the 1st.

    Thanks

I almost want to say female but will need a few more pictures, especially a side profile shot.

Based on your pics, I'm going to have to go with Female. This is hard to say at this age. When we sexed ours, we had the luxury of having the specimen in hand as well as the pics. There were a couple that we had to go back and look at 2-3 times before we made our assessment. In your overhead pic, it is obvious that she is a little flared up thus this would give the impression that her head is smaller. Even so, it looks to me to be a much smaller head which is what we are seeing in ours that we have labeled female. In the second pic, she is again, obviously well fed , but to me still looks like a female. Just my thoughts. Again, you have her in hand so you have a better gauge on her. Pics can be misleading sometimes.

It is a very well fed pyxie indeed. Now from that second picture I'll have to change answer to boy due to it's beaky profile.

Here's two old pictures of a male pyxie named Champ I had back in 2007 for comparison.

Thanks for the feed back. We'll I'll keep hoping its a male I'll probably pick up 1-2 more if I get the chance.

    Thanks
