Hey guys, after having these baby toads for a month(I think its been a month maybe a little longer), and having them grow little by little with great success. Id like to move onto another larger toad. I don't really care how active it really is. I just want it to sit out in the open. You know? Not hide out constantly, like my cane toad which still does it(though she just hides in a cork bark hide I got for her). Like my small toads are american toads, and pretty much the larger one stays out in the open throughout day and night, even with hide outs and deep dirt. It doesnt care for hiding. It just sits there and moves a bit everyonce in a while to a different location. Thats what Id like to get from the larger toad Id get. I dont know how to put it. I know toads are generally shy and innactive, but that doesnt mean there are some species that will stay outside for the most part. I still have that 30gallon unset, and figured. "what the heck, if most amphibians except darts and fbts are innactive, why not have something that appeals to looks, and is sitting out in the open for the most part". You know? I still have to wait till I set up the background. Because Ived been using aquarium glue-this stuff doesnt work at all. Most of the gravel is falling off, so Iam going to use epoxy I saw a few people on another forum say its okay to use and it is said that its a type of glue that once it sticks theres no way itll come off(easily). My dad thinks I should just get a piece of plexiglass as tall as the tank and as long as the tank and glue the gravel onto there. If I dont use gravel I may use smooth river stones that you see in petstores that cost an arm and a leg(for stones). Anywhoo..... I just want something I can view, I also wanna be able to use my moss so it has to be something that likes moisture(70-80% minimum). I found out how to keep the air moist, if you put a slab of glass as the lid and only leave half an opening for the lights and air exchange, it should keep the tank moist. I had probs with keeping my tank moist. I like bufo alvirus(Idk how to spell it), but I read they like low moisture and sand? So it may not do well with my moss, or vice versa. If thats the toad thatll show its mug around more than the others, than I guess Ill go that route. So I dont mind the design as much. But I guess if they are all the same id go for something that likes forests? I like the rococo toads because of that pattern they have. I was thinking before about pixie frogs, but I remember reading that they hide constantly and act ually aestiviate so I wont be able to see em often without disturbing them. I remember reading on here some people saying toads are skittish, and other people saying otherwise which is kinda contradicting, but yeah. I wont go for the toad untill a few months from now just so I can get everything set up and famirialized.
Oh I also saw this video on youtube about a toad of japan. Its called the giant mountain toad(the title of the video) and its amazing looking. I love that jet black color and that white under belly. I guess I like alot of toads. So Iam having trouble picking my choice. I may prefer not to go for another cane toad bec ause of the one I already have. Maybe its just because of the store? In the store she hid always, underneath other toads. I got some other tanks I bought off the petco 1g tank sale. Though Iam only going to use 1 or 2 of them. Since the others are a gift to my parents(they wanna set up an angel fish tank, and a crabitat for fiddlers). Anywho I bought some plants off home depot a few months ago. So I had them repotted with new fresh soil that has no preservatives. So Iam waiting on that. Since I read that plants that are treated with ferts should be repotted for like 6months or so prior to adding them to the terrarium. Iam doing that to prevent anything from going on with the amphibian I get.
Oh and if the toad is active to an extent thats another plus. But mainly I just wanna be able to see it whenever I get home from work.
Sorry for talking alot and asking alot. :P
Oh please don't forget to give me caresheets for the toads. Id rather have a species specific caresheet than that general caresheet. Because that caresheet is not really specific(for every single toads special needs).
I plan on using a UV light during the day just because even if the toad doesnt use it, it wont harm it and I want a cycle. Ill be using a day light and night light.
NEvermind. I think I found another thread with my answer. I kinda forgot about that... Sorry about that.. Well no harm no foul.
