My children brought home nine frogs from their grandparent's pond a few weeks ago. They are currently in a 10 gallon tank with part water and part rocks/land. They have been fed meal worms.
My oldest daughter also has two toads that she caught at a local pond. They seem to be doing just fine. They love to burrow and enjoy stalking their meal worms.
My main questions are:
1) Do the frogs or toads need a heat lamp?
2) Do the frogs need deep enough water to swim in, or is a few inches okay?
3) Is a diet of meal worms fine, or do they need variety (such as crickets, etc.)?
4) Do we need to encourage hibernation, or just leave them alone in their current environment (tanks in my daughter's bedroom)?
Thanks!
I'm not an expert but I know some of the questions people will need to have the answers for in order to help you.
A: They will probably need a picture. Different frogs/toads have different requirements and a picture will help with identification.
B: It would be helpful to know what country you are from. If you live in a cold climate for example, then the frogs you caught will probably need to hibernate. But if you live in a place that doesn't usually get that cold it would be different.
I'm not sure what kind of frogs you have but 9 in one 10 gallon seems like a lot. (Unless the frogs are very very small like Spring Peepers...) A picture of your aquarium would probably help too.
Also are your frogs in the same tank as your toads? (Mixing species is generally a bad idea for various reasons including: Different care requirements, species poisoning one another, and species eating each other.)
Sorry - I should have included where we live. The frogs and toads were caught in Wisconsin, USA. So, it does get well below freezing during the Winter months. The nine that are in the 10 gallon tank are all quite small - maybe an inch or so long. The two toads are in a separate 5.5 gallon tank and are also quite small (maybe 1.5 or 2 inches long).
I'll try including a photo of the frogs - they are just your basic, dark green pond frogs. I know, that doesn't help much! I also found a blurry one of one of the toads. I can take photos of the tank set-up a little later.

Oh, and I should also add that the large frog seen in the bucket is not one we have in our 10 gallon tank. My daughter let that one go and only brought home smaller ones and a few frogs with injuries (one has a missing leg, another a missing foot).
Oooh - just found out the frogs are Green Frogs. Such a creative name!![]()
