do I need a shallow end

I am working on my enclosure for my bullfrog... its 4' by 4' and the aquatic section is 3' by 3'... I used a dog swimming pool from petsmart... its about 6" deep... do I need to make a shallow end for him to be able to sit in with snoot above water or just a driftwood exit ramp to land. tonight I got the plants and the water section going... tomorrow I will fill in around the tub with earth and put sod and land plants in... then the grow lights above his pen. the enclosure will be about 2 feet tall that should be enough hight I think.

A shallow end is not an absolute must, as long as there is a way for it to get up on land.
I do suggest quite a bit of aquatic plant life though. All the bullfrogs I have observed around the country seem to prefer floating about in heavy vegetation.

I have lots of floating plants and some submerged plants.. and duck weed... here is a not so good photo... the land structure has not been built yet... I am working on that tonight...

Just remember to make sure this enclosure has a top, because they can climb and jump pretty high.

I was thinking about two pvc pipes with screen betweent them... hang it over the top so the pipes held it down and straight... the sides will be plexiglass so he cant climb...

As long as they can't get out and dry up on you. What I am picturing in my mind is something that looks like a scroll with PVC pipes at each end. I don't think this will work too well. Personally I would make two frames from wood and stretch mesh over them using a staple gun. One frame would be too big to manage easily and won't be as structurally sound as two would be. Also think how to keep the frog from pushing any top you make off and escaping. If the top is heavy enough, that should keep him in. If you have to come up with a way to secure that top.

Another option (no laughing) is a golf umbrella, modified to act as a lid. Merely open the bumpershoot, glue the locking ring in place with gorilla glue, and the cut off the handle. Grule a cap, or wrap some tape around the handle stump.

You can hold it in place with some adhesive Velcro strips to prevent escapes. And, if you are handy with a needle and thread, you could even sew in some widow screening as viewing ports.
