Hi guys... the heat wave returned the second time and Pacatron's tank is almost 85 degrees. Right now I am using a glass top with very little room for ventaliation, what would you guys suggest me to do? I had been on the market for a new top ever since my buddy stepped on the top (no breaking, thank god), I want something that I can lower the temperature without sacrificing humidity.
As a result of the heat wave, 2 crickets had passed away (I know I know, I am not suppose to leave them in there, but this is the second time I tried this and they are either too busy with the carrot that I left them or they are too busy eating their buddy's dead body), should I get a cricket holder or it doesn't make a difference? (besides the fact that they will attack the frog. But out of both times, the brave ones are the ones being eaten first, while the chicken ones are the last to be eaten)
And oh yea, right now I have a empty pet keeper from Petco, and the measurements are roughly 12" L X 7" W X 8" H, if I were to get a new tendent in there, which species would you recommend frog wise?
85 degrees doesn't seem too high for this species in my opinion. Switch to a wire mesh cover if you want better ventilation or take a plastic lid, cut a portion of it away (about a quarter) and replace it with wire mesh leaving the other end alone...This will allow decent ventilation and still maintain a degree of humidity.
I housed my frogs outside for the majority of the summer, not in direct sun light and the temps here in KY were quite agreeable for this species. As long as you have a moisture gradient and a dish of water, these guys are content with 75-85 degree temperatures.
Wish England was like that lol, im having the opposite problem :/ its gone cold now and its trying to keep the heat
@ Justin: I guess half mesh will work but I just need to find the correct top, and not to mention the humidity fluctuates a lot even with the current top... wondering what it will be like with the mesh...
@ Emma: all you need is a automatic heater that you can set the temperature, no?
