Default Help to identify frog/toad please...

My boys found this frog (toad?) outside today and want to keep it as a pet. I don't want to harm the little guy in any way, so I'd love to know:

    1. What type is he? I 'think' it's a frog rather than a toad...he isn't bumpy or warty, in fact he is very smooth. He jumps rather than walks, and his skin is moist, not dry.
    2. Is it ok to keep him as a pet?
    3. If so, what does he require?

We already have lizards, so we're used to live food, etc.

    Thanks for your help!

It looks like you have a very beautiful Gray Treefrog! We have a care article to the left on these frogs. As long as there are an abudance of these guys in your area, I really don't see the harm in keeping this one. If you have any further questions regarding their care or setup after reading the care article, there are several other Forum members who have these frogs as pets that will be able to help you. Welcome to the Forum and best of luck!

Thank you! You know, I spent the past hour looking at photos of frogs known to Massachusetts, and never clicked on the Tree Frog because I had always thought they were teeny tiny frogs! This guy is about 1.5 inches long.

Thanks for the info...off to read the care sheet now

Lol-glad I could help. From what I understand, these frogs are quite endearing as well as beautiful. I think you are going to find yourself quite smitten. Hope you have fun learning about it and setting it up in its new home!

These guys actually make awesome pets. The only reason US people don't often keep them is that they are so common in the wild and not "exotic".

Question Re: Help to identify frog/toad please...

Well, our little Grey Tree Frog is doing beautifully in his new home! He seems happy, and sings quite often. We have a new little friend however, and we are wondering if he can live in the same cage as our Tree Frog. Here is a photo of him...I believe he's "just a toad" but I am open to being wrong
