They really do. On males, a lot of the parts that would be white on a female are yellow/cream colored in males.

Almost boxy triangular head in first three pictures suggest it's a boy. But who knows I haven't kept pyxies for a few years now

It's more than a theory, I believe it's been proven to be the case with the majority of giant pyxies.
