Looks like a girl to me.
Oh, and yes to answer your question: she does look like an African Giant Bullfrog and not a dwarf variety.
Can you tell the measurements of the frog?
Can you tell the measurements of the frog?
i would say 3 or 4 inches
Definitely a P. Adspersus, the giant pyxie.
I'm also going to say female.
I am also going to say female. But she is a true P. Adspersus
definetly not edulis an dlooks like a girl (also is it me or do girls have allot of white on them?)
African Bullfrogs, Clawed Frogs, Salamanders, Newts, Bearded Dragons,
there could be a theory there. on wed i am receiving two adult pixies boy and girl i will maybe do a test.
African Bullfrogs, Clawed Frogs, Salamanders, Newts, Bearded Dragons,
thanks for all the help ...
Almost boxy triangular head in first three pictures suggest it's a boy. But who knows I haven't kept pyxies for a few years now![]()
is it a boy or girl ?
The biggest factor will be size. If in the next few months, if the frog's growth explodes and reaches 6-7 inches, then it will be a male. If a female, the frog will grow another inch or two and stop. You'll just have to wait to find out. Something that might help us sex the frog would be to take a picture directly over the frog.

The 'sex' question comes up often, and at any juvenile size is a best guess. I am going to stick my neck out and say that it is a boy. I have been known to be wrong more than once. But here is my reasoning - overall back coloring, head looks wide, and the amount of orange at the shoulders.
We will need John to chime in with his thought. Which will be the opinion that counts. He has the eye to get it right.
well guys i think lily is a boy.. i herd a croak or two or some kind of fart anyway.
Lol-well, then you could have a boy. The first few times I heard my Gherkin calling, I thought it was either my daughter or one of my dog's tooting...and it didn't help that all three had guilty looks at the same time either!![]()
I was skeptical about my opinion and it seems for the right reason.
If what you heard sounds like the african bullfrog croak on John's pyxie article than you have a boy!
A fart is a pretty accurate description of a pyxie croak.
Though I must say I prefer the phrase "dying cow".![]()
Still sticking to boy. A female would never have a massive head profile like that.
