Hey guys. I got this great idea for making a cheap, easily made rain chamber! all you need is:
1)5 gallon bucket(with or without lid)
2)A pump, and a tube(the tube will carry the water to where itll be sprayed to the amphibians).
3)Atleast 6inches deep of water.
4)Places for them to hang out(i.e. decorations, twigs, rocks, etc. Personally Iam using a decoration that is in shape of a stump.).
5)Tap water conditioner.
6)A container(Drinking bottle, pvc pipe, meal worm containers or any container thats either somewhat deep, or a long tube.)
Lastly A light to go on top of the bucket.
What you do then is, fill up 5-6inches of water, put in some water conditioner, put the ornaments in place, then put the small pump in one area, then get the tube and tie it around something that is outside(a plank of wood that is small but taller than the 5gallon bucket by atleast 6-7inches more. Or even tie it to a leg of a chair.), what you do then is, you get the container that will spray out the water in droplets. You cut a hole on the bottom thats big enough to fit the tube but make sure its snug and tight, then you just cut very small holes in the lid so this will be used to spray the amphibians in the form of rain. If its a pvc pipe, just make sure the tube is tall enough to reach the top, then you put the pipe on top of the lip of the bucket, for it to rest on. But you will have to make small holes(drill) all over the tube(the sides, so when its turned over its facing down).
If its a water bottle, the idea is similar to the one with the meal worm container, but instead of the bottom of the container, just cut small holes all over the bottle and on the top(where one usssually drinks), you connect the tube in there, you may want to put some tape around it for it to stay in place.
You put the light on top, and voila. I just did this myself with my toads. Watch out though, if the animal can climb(adhesive pads) or can leap pretty far dont attempt this. You may only want to attempt this with smaller species that dont grow over 3-4inches at most. Also you may want to keep an eye on them so they dont leap out. My oldest toad, kero attempted a leap and he almost got out. The younger ones were complacent to just sit under they spray.
Hum.......can you post pictures of this idea?....i'd like to try it. Maybe a video also on youtube...?
