Hello & Congrats on your new Frog! As long as you get the Hornworms from a feed dealer, they should be just fine to feed to the frog. Do NOT feed any you might find in the wild because they tend to eat tobacco & tomato plants and can be toxic to reptiles & amphibians. You should offer the frog food on a daily basis, he may not always take it, but offering is good. Feed appropriate sized meals. Too many hard shelled insects are possibly going to compact his bowels, so go easy on the mealies! We feed ours earthworms/ night-crawlers, crickets & mealworms for variety and have found that they LOVE the earthworms.
We keep ours in Rubbermaid containers and the temps are between 80 to 87.
Ivory thanx for the info, how do you heat up the rubbermaid?and i wanna get another one same size and green.how many worms a day?he is the size of a quarter.
We have a reptile/amphib room that we keep warm, so we don't use any heating devices for now. Come Winter time, we may have to even though we use a small heater to try to keep things toasty.
As far as how many worms, if he/she is the size of a quarter, cut the earthworm into appropriate sized pieces and offer one.....wait until it has maneuvered the piece of worm down and offer another piece. Remember the worms stretch and contract and will do so in the frog's belly too.
We are going to be attempting another breeding in the next week here. We got such a variety of colors from our breeders I can't wait to see what they pop out this time. Hope you find a healthy, bright Green!
Thanx!Good luck with the breeding!
