Ouch John. That one looks like it hurt. They've got some chompers.
And how big was the monster? I'm guessing not full grown?
He is just a hair over 6 inches, about 4 years old now. This happened last year.
I fed him quickly on insects to adult size, but now I feed him a very sparse maintenance diet, rarely rodents.
That's interesting - it seems kind of small for 4 years old. I have a 7 month old male who is just over 6 inches.
Yes, he is fairly small, about 693g. You would be surprised at how little is required to keep him at a constant weight. I also keep him fairly cool.
I am going to try an experiment of very warm temperatures and tons of food to see if I can make him grow more, despite his age (which is still fairly young for his species). It is often thought that herps can be "stunted." I am curious to see if this is true or not, at least in A. bullfrogs.
ouch. =(
Wow! I thought the worst that could happen is a sticky tounge. I hope my pacman doesn't nip me that hard.
Now I can see why fully grown rats can't escape the jaws of a giant, hungry frog
My thumb looks exactly like yours .I had less blood tho. My guy is 51/2 inches,and 5 month old. The smaller male is 4 inches and 5 month old. One is growing faster. They both get the same amount of food. The big one is more aggressive as you all know.
Ouch, that looks nasty. I feel bad for you now George haha, I didn't think it was that bad.
Just curious, which kind of frog is most likly to bite, and which gives the most painful chomp? I thought maybe pacmans, but now I'm thinking pixies..
Did anybody get bit by a pac?
Not yet- i got clipped by a tongue on the hand, when trying to prod some crickets towards my pacman
Horned frog bites do not hurt, Ive been bit many times from my surinams/auritas it was almost everytime i force fed them has they are wc and wont eat and my female ornates caught me a few times when changing the water its just like your finger and thumb holding your finger with a lil pressure. Its not enough to peirce the skin/draw blood i reckon has its never happened with me or people i know thats been bit.
I would not like to get bit off a african bullfrog put it that way there power of the jaws is far more than an horned frog.
Any common pet amphibians or reptiles that can actually take off fingers? Some of the big pet lizards look like could cause damage.
Snake bites, even from non venemous snakes look very painful
