Hi! Welcome. That's one cute frog.
hey! i'm a mom to 4 kids in the way north texas area. this morning we found a little frog (from googling i think it's a green tree frog). we're trying to find out what we can about the little guy (or girl) and see if we can make a little home for him.
Hi! Welcome. That's one cute frog.
and we just found another one! hanging around our back door. looks just like the other one but with light speckles on it's back?
so weird. none of our neighbors have ever seen frogs like this around here. we've had flooding this week though so i'm sure that has something to do with it.
so do you guys think these are green tree frogs? want to make sure i'm reading the right care sheets.
That would have been my guess, but I'm definitely not an expert. John or Paul or Kurt should be around later, and they would definitely have an idea. Or someone else may pop in before then.
It looks like its cricket buying time.
Those are definitely Green Tree Frogs (Hyla cinerea). I have to say, it's pretty cool that you have them living in your backyard.
Best of Luck with your new found frogs!
Alex

Lol...
We usually have one or two of those in a vivarium set up for locals. Hopefully they're both females because they are one of the loudest frogs I've ever heard. We had a male one time and it started in about 3 am. I woke up thinking it had escaped and was perching on my ear.
They are a lot of fun to feed and will tackle pretty much anything that will fit in their mouth. We have a big female who can leap 18 inches and nail a cricket with perfect precision.
Oh and welcome to the forum.
BTW - that yellow to white strip below the eye is characteristic of green tree frogs. There are squirrel treefrogs and another species I can recall at the moment that look similar, but don't have the line.
I used to think that I had to understand in order to believe, then I realized that I must believe in order to understand - Augustine
thank you guys!
do they only call at night? the night before last there was a loud sound on our patio that went on all night. we thought it was some kind of locust or something since the toads around here have a really deep croak and it was not like that. then we woke up to these little guys on the patio and i wonder if it was them. nobody heard anything last night, but i guess we'll see.
the older kids (4 and 5) are sure they are a boy and a girl. they are calling them tiana and naveen (probably the same as every other 4 and 5 year old's frogs in the nation).
oh geez, i just checked out some youtube videos of green tree frogs calling. we have not heard anything like that for sure.
Their care requirements are identical to Gray Tree Frogs (there is a Gray Tree Frog care article linked on the left of every page on the site, so check it out). If you live in North Texas, you should be able to come by Gray Tree Frogs too. Greens don't go too far west in TX so I'm guessing you're somewhere east of Dallas.

i'm actually west of dallas and far north (almost to oklahoma).
i was looking at this care sheet. i'll go check out the gray tree frog one now.
I bet I've chased toads around where you live :P. That's pretty far west for Greens. The Gray Tree Frog article is more applicable. White's Tree Frogs are Australian and Indonesian - true tropical frogs, not like Greens.

I think you don't live that far from me!
i'm about 20 minutes from denton. is that near you?
i got a couple pics of them this morning on their noodle (we are tree branch hunting today - the noodle is just temporary).
