We have a tree toad who has adopted us, our hot tub and refuses to leave. I've tried to replace him on trees, moss covered rocks, the usual flora....but Kermit comes back. Sits on the panel of the hot tub so that when we open the cover," TADA! I'm here!"
He knows (I swear!!) when it's time to move from one end of the panel to the other, when the cover comes down and he comes closer to my face when I'm in the tub.
What am I going to do with him when Michigan winter comes? He'll stay warm enough, but what will he eat?
Shall I get him ready for an inside terrarium?![]()
Welcome to the Forum-sounds like you've made a new friend! Is there anyway you can post a picture of Kermit? We like to know what species we are dealing with before we offer advice. Most frogs and toads know when to start getting ready for winter and bulk up with food and settle into a place to hibernate for the winter. Not all of them make it, true, but that is the course of Mother Nature. The decision to bring it inside and look after it is a personal one. However, once you bring it in and look after it for the long cold months of winter, it may be yours for the rest of its life as it is not recommended to release a frog back into the wild once it has been held captive for a long length of time.
