I've asked a couple of questions prior and have gotten very useful answers, to all Thank you! I have successfully released 10 froglets back to the wild; my backyard on the edge of a wooded wetlands. I have several to go. But I have a question one of the last tadpoles to change finally got a third leg today but it appears to be his left leg, rather than the right leg. The other froglets had the left leg appear as the last leg, is this a serious issue?
Normally the right leg comes first, but occasionally the left leg can come out first and the right leg will follow. However, it is possible there could be a developmental issue with the right leg and it will not pop, or if it does, it will be deformed. In any case, there's nothing you can do and there's no way to pop the leg out yourself safely. The proper emergence of the last leg actually triggers hormonal changes that cause the frog to properly metamorphose, so you don't want to interfere.
